Playing With Watercolor

I've been playing around with watercolors lately. I've always avoided watercolors simply because I always felt pressure to be good at it. What? Being good, doing it well, forget it. Just get out there and play right?

So I've been playing and learning new stuff. The goal is to find a class to actually go to where I could go and just get some good instruction.

In the meantime, practice is the key. Play, and making mistakes and just having fun fun.

Zendala Dare #42

Nothing new or interesting happening in my neck of the woods lately. Doha is cloudy today - strange, probably change of season again.

Here is the 42nd installment of the Zendala Dare from the bright owl. Very simple yet time consuming.

Pomegranate Juice

Pomegranates are obviously in season. There are so many in the supermarkets, And the supermarket we regularly visit sells not only the fruit, but the also sell the seeds so you don't have to go through the hassle of taking them out yourself.

My sister and I used to love pomegranates when we were younger. We actually had 2 trees in our back yard. We would camp out under our favorite tree when it was full of pomegranates, break them open and eat them. Talk about pomegranate overdose.

Now pomegranates are suddenly a popular power food, and getting lots of praise. High in anti-oxidants, and good for the body in so many ways. I have now added fresh pomegranate juice to our family's weekly ritual of green juice shots. Which reminds me, time to go make a brew.

Moebius Syndrome Awareness

The Diva threw out the challenge this week for us the use the Moebius Syndrome Awareness logo as a string to tangle.
I had never heard of Moebius Syndrome until I read about her son, Artoo, on her blog.
This is a congenital nerve disorder which affects 1-2 in 1,000,000.

Thank you Laura for sharing your story, and also the time that you take to give us these challenges.

Chanlenge #40

So much for consistency in blogging. At least I am posting once a week. Let's see if I can get two per week from next week. Small steps right?

The 40th installment of The Bright Owls zendala challenges.
Hats off to Erin who can come up with an original template each time. Especially with a busy schedule like hers.

Prismacolors, Cadent, and keenes

Have a good weekend all.

Zendala #39 - ZenDon't

Challenge #39 was all about "don't".

Erin's challenge was a great list of moving away from the things you usually do and try to do them a different way. Use different techniques, more or less shading

When I saw the template, I thought great, I know what I would like to do with this to move away from my norm. I wanted to try using more geometric zentangles. I seem to avoid them, and go for the more floaty flowery styles.

After about 3 tries, and literally pulling at my hair because I couldn't get it just right, I heard a little whisper. DON'T STRESS ABOUT IT. This is supposed to be fun.

So my lesson, don't stress and put pressure on yourself. There will be other times to try out the geometric ones. When the pressure was off the lines flowed more naturally and the end result is something I am happy with.

Challenge #38 Coffee Bean

Its been 2 months since my broken foot. While I can literally feel the heeling take place, I still need to keep off the foot. That drives me crazy - staying still - sometimes doing nothing. How can a person just do nothing? I'm a mover and I need to keep moving. Thankfully zentangle is there to help keep my mind off of not moving. I've been keeping busy art wise and pulled out the paintbrushes again.

Zendala #38 is called coffee bean; simply because of the pod-like shapes in the middle. Then I ran out of ideas of what to do next. Liking what was there so far, I decided not to continue for fear of spoiling the whole thing.

 UPDATE:

After posting the above Zendala, I got some lovely comments thanks guys, and Didisch suggested to do some shading. Now why didn't I think of that. I took her advise and played around a little. And here is the result.  Thank you Didisch for the suggestion.

Happy New Year!!

Hello friends, it's a new year. New things to look forward to. New goals to set or continue working on. More opportunities to be positive, to be kind, to be grateful, thankful, and perhaps another opportunity to take that leap of faith.

I don't ever make New Years resolutions but this year, I am make a promise to myself to take my art to a new level. I don't know in what way but even if its to get into a classroom or open an etsy store or something like that; just once it's moving in a forward direction.

         HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
