Doll Dreams Challenge - July

Summer is almost over, and in a couple of days its back to the grind, and the routines. And the older I get I realize that routine is not so bad. Routine is good when you have a family who is always on the go.

The Doll Dreams challenge for July was SUMMER

As much as I love summer, I got stuck on this one. Then as the face developed I remembered something about one summer many years ago, and this turned out to be a note for my sister.

"Do you remember when we got our hair braided one summer and they put beads on the ends? We thought it was so cool. But the beads made swishy noises when we moved our heads. That was so annoying"

When I visited my sister this summer we had a good laugh about it.

And of course I had to test it out in INSTAGRAM........

More Apples - Collage

While digging around in the internet looking for collage artists, I found 2 whom I really admire.
First is Elizabeth from "Paper Paintings" her colors are vibrant, the use of paper is amazing. Her pictures are truely painted with paper. In most of her peices you have to look more closely to realize its all about texture.

**Note to self - take one of her classes.

The other artist is Nancy Standlee. I like her style. She's not only into collage but also various mixed media styles. She does collage portraits too. Love it!

And now for my second and final edition of APPLES

Both pieces were done on 8x11 watercolor paper. Most papers used were from magazines or hand printed/painted. I like the challenge of placing each piece of paper in the right place and having to figure out where the shadows and the highlights go. The background is just paint and paints splashes.

The key to completing these collages is patience, patience, patience.

A is for APPLES

A few posts back I promised some artsy apples. Here they are.

I really like doing collage. I discovered it high school and have experimented with it off and on. I am really happy with how these apples turned out.

Back From Holiday

Sadly I am back in Qatar from holiday in Antigua - my home. We had a great time. As always the visit was way to short. It was so good to spend with time family and friends again.

The heat in Qatar is miserable, and there is not much to do here during the summer especially during Ramadan. As of yesterday Ramadan is o.v.e.r. So at least we can now go out for a bite to eat. It's the EID holidays now - not sure what to expect. I just know that most Government offices are closed.

The kids and I are looking forward to school. I think I am looking forward to it more than they are. For the past week we have been playing Super Mario Brothers on the Wii. Wow! I can actually find the time to do something like that.
