Zendala Challenge #54

Okay, so I was watching a show on TV about aliens and UFO's, and I got caught up in the whole story while I was doing this weeks challenge. Before I knew it, the following image appeared. The initial intention was to use wavez and the pais as the main tangles, but I only got them half way done. I guess the aliens took over.

QUESTION: WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS OF YOUR ZENDALAS?

1. DO YOU SEE THE TEMPLATE AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY KNOW WHAT TANGLES TO USE?

OR

2. DO YOU SEE THE TEMPLATE, PROCRASTINATE A LITTLE, PUT IT AWAY, COME BACK TO IT, PUT IT AWAY, REALIZE THE WEEK IS ALMOST OVER AND YOU NEED TO GET IT DONE, THEN PRODUCE A MASTER PIECE?

OR

3. JUST START FILLING IT IN AND JUST SEE WHAT EMERGES?

My process usually starts off with good intentions to use this zentangle or another zentangle. In keeping with the principles of design, I like to stick to the design elements of 3's. However, the best plans don't usually produce something I'm happy with. In that case, a little improvising and movement in a different direction works best. In this case my thought process seems to have been influenced by the "out of this world" story I was watching.

What's your process?
Thoughts?

First, I LOVE YOUR ZENDALA! So unique!

As for the process ... I never go into it with a plan. I start in the center with whatever "feels" right and work my way out to the edge. For me, each piece I do is like opening a gift ... I never know what it will be until it's finished.

Thanks for leaving your comment Traci. I agree with the fact that each one is a gift. You never know what you'll get.

What a fun zendala, and I can see the alien influence. I do love to read about what has influenced someone, or what process they use. It makes the end product much more personal. For me - I don't have a set process though I do usually try to use one or more "new to me" tangles. I'm too much about what I think will "go with" and would like to loosen up and just fill with reckless abandon.....

Really like the shading on the center orb. Like the color combination. The process I use can vary with the template but I usually start with the center and go from there. I may have some tangles in mind but I have been know to change them. Maybe that is why I struggled with this weeks template. I started with the ribbons.

Hi Sue, I agree with your thoughts on needing to loosen up and just fill in "with reckless abandon". I find that quite difficult to do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hi Donald, I'm very happy to hear your thoughts about your process. Don't you just hate it when you struggle with a template?

As for the orb in the middle, I wish I had done it in sepia tones instead of graphite. I might have been more cohesive.

Great zendala! Very 3-dimensional.

My process is definitely "start filling it in and see what happens." I rarely start with a plan, and even when I do, I don't stick to it. I usually start on the outside of the zendala and work my way in. I try to include a balance of light and dark, straight and curved, but that isn't always the case either. Each zendala or zentangle is a (usually pleasant) surprise!

Wow, your zendala is great! I love the difference between the centre and the rest!
About my process: I start in the centre with a tangle that comes in mind and aftre fisnishing that one I 'pick' another one from my mind or sometimes in a book.
This is the most relaxing way top do it for me.

Thanks for your thoughts Ann, I too keep my handy zentangle book nearby to help with tangle placement.

Thank you for leaving a comment Karen Lynn don't you just love the surprise at the end of it all?

Wow - Your Zendala is pretty fabulous and you can see a touch of the Psyfi channel! The balance is nice and all of your patterns are so complimentary, plus the pops of color give it the "stand out" look. Very pretty!

whoa Kelly! Those creatures remind me of an eel my daughter found in the lake! Nice designs and shading!

I print off the template, think about it some and often put it aside for when I have that extra time to sit. I will look at tangles or design patterns for inspiration to begin, and usually end up making up more patterns from an idea that comes as I am working on the zendala.
